In any of my reviews, I try as objectively as possible to describe all the pros and cons of devices, Retevis RT15 is no exception to the rule.
Comes in a simple cardboard box. On top of the logo, on the front side information: model, output power, operating frequency range, supply voltage.
If EU and US are clear to me, then what is H, B, Y, R, Q is not up to date.
In the box we are waiting for:
Radio station with installed battery and clad clip
Dual port charger
USB cable (type A) / mini-USB (type B)
The body is made of black textured plastic. The parts are very close to each other, there are no squeaks for twisting.
It is comfortable in the hand, but as for itself, having reduced the width by 5 mm, it would be just right. Although, most likely, this is a matter of habit.
On the front side there are buttons: switching on and switching of 16 programmed channels. They are made of rubber, marking is painted. I guess that will erase quickly. Pushing intelligible, with a well-marked click.
At the top of the logo LED, informs about the reception (green) / programming (green flashing) / transfer and charging (red).
At the upper end is not a removable antenna and lanyard mounting location. Unfortunately, it is not included.
From the left end of the plastic transfer button with dotted protrusions that prevent slipping of the finger.
Below are two rubber, to adjust the volume. Marking is already cast, and definitely will not be erased.
They also have additional functions:
(+) volume, and turn off the noise by holding.
(-) volume, lock the channel buttons or scan them. The choice and purpose of the last two, made only by programming through a string with a PC.
On the right side are the jacks for charging and external headset / programming.
All this is protected by a rubber plug.
On both sides, there are contacts for charging through a special glass.
The back cover is very tight on eightsnaps. Specially made deepening, that would hob her. For additional fixation of the battery, which is already difficult to get, a piece of thin porous material is pasted.
In general, the body makes a pleasant impression. Weight with a clip is only 105 gr. For relative comparison, I measured the most popular, unfortunately there is no direct competitor in the person of RT22 (and twins).
Lace 1m long, more rigid than soft. I do not have a special load for verification, so I used the bank and the telephone. Declared amperage produces. When a second consumer is connected, 1A is distributed to both ports.
Fully discharged walkie-talkie, charger gives 311mA. The red LED is on. As you charge, the current decreases until the battery protection board is blocked. The LED goes out. The process takes about 3.5 hours. In my opinion it is a bit much. Charged battery shows 4.18v.
Measurement capacity produced by OPUS.
Only in English. In general, the manufacturer did not bother with it. All the same information on the functions in general terms. At the office. site, there is no instruction yet.
Disassembling the radio
Open the lid, remove the battery, unscrewsix screws under the asterisk and take out part of the body. We see an aluminum plate, which for the most part serves to remove heat from the output transistor. At least as a counterweight and screen. It is nothing not fixed, but simply pressed against the board housing.
One side of the board is already available. In order to get to the elements on the other side, we need to remove all wires, including the antenna.
What immediately caught my eye was the absence of unwashed flux. Everything is clean, and without clumsy soldering.
RT15's heart hid under the screen. This is a relatively new BK4815 chip. Full DataSheet not found. From the description from off.sayta, which by the way now hangs, the operating frequency 124 MHz -560 MHz.
Off - 14.5 mA
Receive Mode (Squelch Open) - 100 mA
Standby mode (economy) - 8-30 mA (This is due to the on and off of the receiving part (about 2 times per second) to save power.
Low-460 mA transmission mode
Transmission mode High- 1.2 A
Declared power output 2W. Check unfortunately did not work. At the first disassembly, the instrument was not at hand. And when it appeared, there was no desire to disassemble the RT15 again.
Programming: Standard the program without problems is changing everything that is provided, and even the frequency range. Although the latter is reflected only in the program. Walkie-talkie refuses to operate at 136-174 MHz
CHIRP does not yet support.
Check for range.
One of the stations was always in a panel house on the 5th floor. Photos numbered.
1. Almost 1 km. Audibility is clear and legible on both powers.
2. Almost 2 km. Audibility is clear and legible on both powers.
3. Slightly more than 3km. Audibility is legible, there are significant interference (High). In Low mode, you can hear a presence with a disabled sound, but communication is not possible.
Of course in dense urban buildings thesebabies are not able to work 3 km. But their potential is good. Would recommend using low power. Consumption is two times less, and the loss in range is not so great. Or program working frequencies with both powers.
Functionality and work with the radio
Hold the power button for 2 seconds, turns it on or off. When you turn on voice (Eng. Or Kit.) Accompaniment: "Power is on and the channel number." When you turn off, just beep. (Beep - simple monophonic sound).
Channel switching is organized in a circle, withvoice confirmation of the number. By the way, it is loud, and it does not matter whether the voice or Beep. In the settings there is no way to make it quieter, and everyone around you will hear it.
When the minimum value of the battery is ~ 3.4v, the voice informs about this: "Please charge the battery."
Adjust the volume of the interlocutor, seven gradations. When switching, when the maximum or minimum level is reached, a double beep is heard. In other cases, single. In a noisy room do not have problems in speech intelligibility.
VOX as always for show. I think LaringoPhone in this case will only save the situation.
Lock (Key Lock) applies only to channels. Turn on - press and hold the volume button (-) to a single Beep. Turning off the same way, just hear a double beep.
I would not recommend using a belt clip.
But if so:then just right.
Direct competitor Retevis RT15, is RT22 and its counterparts. There will be a matter of taste and price.
The main disadvantage:
the inability to adjust the volume of voice and sound.
I would like to get switching output power on the go. But in such toys, did not see it.
Long charge and indication of completion.
From the positive I want to note:
The range of work, compactness, build quality, the possibility of charging from USB (auto, poverbank).
There will be no big discount. This price in my opinion corresponds to the RT15.
